Grassroots Skaters'
Foundation is a non-profit organization that was formed to support the adult figure skating
community in Alberta. We encourage and promote adults to get (and
stay) involved in figure skating. With an age range of
18 - 83 years old, adult skaters jump, spin, ice dance and compete. They
continually prove that age is a state of mind and are role models to young people everywhere.
With increasing ice costs, coaching, and competition fees, skating is becoming less accessible.
The Grassroots Skaters' Foundation raises funds and awareness for adult skating in Alberta.
Our main means of fundraising is done through the ownership and
operation of the Grassroots Northland
Farmers' Market in Calgary. This outdoor market
runs one day a week from June through to September and features
great locally grown fresh produce and baked goods, BC fruits, organic
foods,
meats and seafood, as well as a variety of other superior products and crafts.
The market has run
very successfully and profitably for close to 20 years. All of our proceeds go directly
to the adult figure skating community to help reduce costs. Volunteer opportunities
are available to earn skater credits, which can be used to help offset
skating fees. Contact Janneane
Wutzke to learn more about the Grassroots Skaters' Foundation.
